As we are flying through one of the most patriotic years Britain has seen for quite some time, all eyes were on Wimbledon yesterday - be it for the strawberries cream or the sport itself.Following on from Royal Ascot, this was another great occasion for bringing out some suiting masterpieces - hence why I have rounded up a few of my favourites:.
Always a risky choice going with all-white, but for a summer suit why not, and with our range of thicker linen cloths you can have the light-weight, breathable jacket without the intolerable creasing. I love Graff's cropped grey jacket with patch pockets giving a little extra detail.
And while we're on sporting stars I just couldn't miss out Ryan Giggs' dazzling blue suit. It is very similar in tone to Tom Cruise's infamous electric blue suit in Mission Impossible 4. It's such a statement colour this summer and looks great with a crisp white shirt. If you're looking for a brighter blue suiting cloth take a look at our VBC range, it's a beautifully lightweight cloth made from a Mohair mix.
Further evidence of the Blue craze is James Middleton seen here at Wimbledon. James has raised the tone even further with this sky blue suit. I'd definitely recommend getting a sample of our light blue linen if this is a look you'd care to try!
Keeping my eye on the many suited gents at Wimbledon this year I've noted that the notched lapel is definitely dominating as spectators have gone for a more relaxed style not requiring the sharp effect of a peaked lapel.
For the ladies - white is most definitely the colour! A bright white cropped jacket is perfect for the summer and is so easy to accessorise with any outfit. Wimbledon is such an essential British tradition and along with the strawberries and cream really signifies the start of the summer. It's a perfect excuse to put away your wintery black and grey suits and step out in something a bit more colourful.

Unlike a lot of enthusiastic cyclist I came late to apprieciating the beauty of the bike. For various reason I did not own a bike past the age of a about ten so my real first experience of cycling as a form of travel was at the ripe old age of 25! I was interning for a design company in London and need a cheap and fast way of getting there.
I myself tend not to wear my suit on my way to work but you would surprised the amount of people that do. My old studio manager, our very own David Minns always cycles to work wearing a three piece suit. This dapper gent has even been know to cycle down the street, one hand on the handle bars and the other holding aloft his beautiful vintage umbrella, I kid you not!
With this in mind, if you are more like David than me and wish to don your dapper suit while hurtling through traffic there are a few things you need to remember. Firstly, I would definitely invest in some good bicycle clips for your trousers. This will stop you legs getting catch in the spokes and keep your suits immaculate. I would suggest a more tapered trouser purely for this reason and try and stick to a light weight cloth as cycling can be hot work. Another thing to remember, that I know David Minns swears blind by is to ask for more space across the back of your suit jacket. Tailoring is the art of controlling the body within clothes, for this reason it is not always the most cycle friendly active so extra room across the back is always welcome.
A great option for ladies is to go with separates. A lovely summer dress with a suit jacket, keeps you cool for summer but smart for work. Another option would be to have an A line suit skirt or go with trousers.
But don't forget about your luggage! What about a stylish removable basket for your handbag? Or maybe like this gent you could just sling you briefcase over the handlebars and hope for the best. Great for Amsterdam but I fear this could be a bit more hair raising in a city not know for it's cycle friendly roads!
It's not just about cycling in a suit, what about cycling in an overcoat? Many a time I have been pelting it along the road and all of a sudden the heavens open up and the rain begins to fall, usually as I've just embarked on a half an hour cycle! Sometimes a mac just doesn't cut it, they keep you dry but unlike an overcoat they don't keep you warm. I would advice going for a medium, to light weight cloth though as cycling can sometimes by hard work and soon makes you steam.
And what about the accessories? When I design tailored garments with my customers I always try and picture the scene. If a gent wants a casual jacket in tweed, where is he going to wear it? With what trousers is he matching it with and what scarf? Every detail should be consider. In that vain I love the photo below. This gent has teamed his two piece beige tweed suit with a vintage looking bike and the ice on the cake are his fingerless gloves, perfect for a country tailored look.

With the up and coming Olympics in London this summer, all eyes are on the athletes taking part. Being an avid cyclist as well as a Style Advisor for A Suit That Fits I couldn't help but notice Victoria Pendleton.
Pendleton is a great lover of mixing up separates, the perfect way to extend and give variety to your wardrobe. Here it looks like Victoria is doing a bit of a 'Kate Moss,' wearing a dinner jacket with jeans and knee high boots. This photo was taken at the promotional event for her ladies bicycle range, the peaked labels teamed with the smart blouse keep the look glamorous while the jeans and boots give it an outdoorsy feel, perfect for a pro-cyclist.
Another great example of Victoria Pendleton mixing ladies suit jackets with separates is a shot of her at a recent photo call. Again she's sporting a peaked lapel, this time in the form of a silver metallic number. She's gone with a single button which works well with her petite frame but something I wouldn't recommend for ladies with a little more up top. If you have large bust a two or three jacket is a much more flattering look. Pendleton has teamed this jacket with a a slim fit high waisted pencil skirt and silk long sleeve blouse. This idea of casual smart is the very essence of Victoria's look and something that can work well on all of us. Go for one statement piece or smart item and team it with classic more simple separates. This keeps you looking smart while allowing your statement piece to let your personality shine through.
In my mind though my favourite look of Victoria Pendleton's is the one she donned for a recent photo shoot, technically not her own but great all the same. Here she is pictured riding a vintage looking bike, completing the look with a vintage outfit. It is probably my love of a very nipped in waists and an extreme hourglass shape that drew me to this outfit. It might also have something to do with my love of vintage bikes! This silhouette looks great on curvy and athletic women alike provide you follow some simple rules. If you're curvy go with an ultra fitted look with a high waisted pencil skirt. Make sure that there's not a scrap of excess cloth on your waist though, keeping the skirt on or just above the knee.On the other end of the scale, if you have small hips and a small bust you can cut your skirt a little lower. I would advice going with an umbrella or A-line skirt and wider peaked lapels on your jacket. If you pair this with a very nipped in waist it will give you the illusion of an hourglass figure.
