The nationwide prohibition on alcohol was ignored by many. There was a revolution in almost every part of human activity. Fashion was no exception!
From left to right we have an elegant evening suit with a wider lapel creating a wider shoulder shape with a narrow waist created by a low fitted waistcoat.
Next we have a morning suit , with contrasting footwear to set off the contrast waistcoat! Please also note the use of the peaked lapel again for that statement look!
Then we move onto our third outfit a tweed jacket with a notch lapel and contrast waistcoat and fashionable bow tie in front of a white collar on a blue shirt! If you look closely even though it's the same model his shoulders look slimmer! As your eye line is drawn to his waistcoat and bow tie! A slightly less formal attire!
Finally we have a contrasting Jacket, these are known as either boating jackets or even a smoking Jacket! After dinner attire the simple pocket square colour co-ordinates the light coloured trousers for a formal look! Darker colours are used on the torso for a slender looking silhouette!
Mr Dicaprio we can certainly say you have dressed suitably for the era and stand shoulder to shoulder with your predecessors below!
It would'nt be right not to mention the previous elegant gentlemen who have also played Jay Gatsby!
Alan Ladd, the dashing Robert Redford and our own Toby Stephens! They all look so elegant! Contrasting colours also used with bespoke tailoring can set you apart from the normal attire!

Now, It's not very often I find inspiration for a blog in a red-top, but after noticing this article in one of the best selling red-tops in the UK, I had a thought. For once, the article was factual and insightful.
I'm only going to look at a few of the chaps mentioned. Mainly the ones which I feel have had the biggest transformation since moving to Hollywood, and to be honest, the biggest change in each chap is the styling. First up, Here we have our current 007, Daniel Craig. I must admit, I'd heard of him before he was named as the new James Bond, but I wansn't overly familiar with him. The transformation, however, is plain to see. Here we see a rather relaxed looking Daniel Craig (circa 2004), but with the help of a good haircut, and a fantastic looking suit , we can see the difference. (Tuxedo is Midnight Blue in colour with Black Silk Shawl Lapel, Black Silk Jetted Pockets and furnished with a White Handkerchief ).
Next is a chap who has been on our screens for years, yet he's still only 26 years old. First seen in the Harry Potter movies (2005 onwards), it's hard to imagine the rapid rise to fame that Twilight has brought him.Looking very casual in the older photo, we can see the change brought about by a tidy haircut and a sharp looking suit . The colour really suits his skin tone too, working with his hair colour to compliment his tone. Nice slim lapels, with a slim tie to match. Very trendy.
Last, but not least, someone you'd probably least expect to see on this page, however, i think he's very underestimated in the Style word. Hugh Laurie has had a fantastic career on both sides of the ocean, with his recent portrayal of Dr House winning him much acclaim in the USA, and a whole new army of admirers.
During his time on British TV, I always found him rather drab, although his talent was never in doubt. Admittedly, I am a fan of the 3 piece suit being worn in the older image here (mainly because I loathe the open shirt neck), but the more modern picture does him justice as the suit colour matches his profile much better.
So, in conclusion, if all it takes is a decent haircut and a sharp looking suit, why haven't you already booked an appointment with me? We have all seen the difference it can make. See you all soon?

We've been waiting for the biggest music award show in the UK, and it has come and gone! BRITs 2013 has brought the music world together just for one night at the 02 London. As anticipated, all the celebrities turned up looking very elegant and sophisticated- with few exceptions; I can't explain what happened.
There's no doubt they'd have tried on numerous suits and considered countless accessories to finish off their desired looks. First up, we've the man of the moment, Justin Timberlake. He arrived ahead of his performance sporting a classic grey two piece suit with peak lapels. He wore this with a brilliant white shirt with collar bar. The 'Suit and Tie ' singer finished off his style with a classic black tie which acts as a focal point and a printed pocket square. Although he looked a bit spooked out on the red carpet, this gifted and talented individual delivered a great performance on stage.
Justin Timberlake hits the stage for his performance donning a dinner jacket in a reversal of the traditional black jacket with satin lapels. He opted for matt shawl lapels with gleaming jacket . To complete his look, he wore a white dress shirt with studs and oversized bow tie. Pictured here, we've the JLS lads all looking very dapper in their three piece suits - look at their shoes too! It's obvious these lads have paid attention to the details, just like their music. Despite being snubbed in the nominations, JLS made an outstanding appearance; displaying attributes of bespoke tailoring . In the mix, we have peak lapels , shawl lapels , notched lapels , slanted pockets and contrasting lapels and pockets. Their choice of fabrics reflects the versatility of their music- from tweed to checks and solid colour. For representing the best of British tailoring, kudos to their stylists!. Now I happen to quite like Robbie Williams. You've got to hand it to the guy. Part of the biggest boy band in the world and he makes the absolutely crackers decision to leave and go it alone, but I also feel sorry for him when it comes to fashion.
I think he is massively underrated. Thanks to his former boy band colleague and good friend Gary Barlow OBE , Robbie takes a back seat when it comes to Men's Style, but you only have to back a few months to see that recognition is finally coming his way, after he landed on the cover of Esquire magazine. Below, we can see Robbie carries off the formal look very well. I like the oversized Bow Tie on this Tuxedo , with the Shawl Collar waistcoat below the traditionally peaked collar Dinner Jacket.
Lets also not forget his recent single 'Candy' where he appears in a much more casual fashion. It seems that he can carry off good style, even when casual, and even when dressed in Pink. I really like the casual jacket with the slim lapel option, matched closely with chinos in the next picture. And I like the choice of buttons and patch pockets just to set the jacket apart. Robbie also makes this look much more casual thanks to the plain white T-shirt worn under the jacket.

Brand new feature to the blog page. Every week, I will be submitting my Suit Of The Week. This could be from the world of TV, celebrity, fashion, sport or it could even be one of our fantastic clients, or someone I see in the street.
Basically, this will be something different. Something that we all wish we could achieve, but don't know how. Something that moves us to declare: I Will Be That Stylish, for I Am ME. And The Great Thing About Being ME Is That Nobody Else Is ME! So, ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, I give you my very first Suit Of The Week. The Patterned Tuxedo jacket is paired immaculately with a matching Bow tie , and with the Waistcoat matching the Trousers , ensures a very smart Mr Messi when the jacket is over the back of the chair. You can't win your 4th Ballon D'Or in a row and not be chosen for Suit Of The Week in the same week, so when Argentinian superstar, Lionel Messi told me to check out his suit , I had only one winner.
This was designed by Dolce and Gabanna and looks very smart on the very tidy, erm. Messi. So congratulations Barcelona and Lionel. Your 4th Ballon D'Or in a row, and your very first Suit Of The Week. Needless to say Real Madrid's Portuguese international Christiano Ronaldo wasn't too happy when I told him Messi had won again!

We've all been waiting for it. Been teased and tempted by various clips, reports and photographs. and FINALLY we have the official premiere of the newest James Bond film Skyfall back where it belongs in London.
So with all eyes undoubtedly on the man of the moment, James Bond himself in the form of Daniel Craig - he certainly didn't disappoint. A classic black dinner suit worn with a crisp white dress shirt , dress studs, matching pocket square and bow tie - simple, fabulous. Though in a reversal of the traditional black jacket with satin lapels , Craig has gone for a matt shawl collar with textured satin jacket . If you're looking for something similar our blue collection-D5 would be the best selection.
Pictured here with Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe who looks absolutely divine in this sumptuous Vivienne Westwood creation (I have an obsession with her incredible bodices) you can see the Bond suit in more detail with his straight flapless pockets and straight tapered trousers - even a satin cummerbund . He's stuck to a thoroughly classic tailored suit which I think is quite appropriate for the occasion celebrating one of Britain's finest.
Shedding the black cape of 'You Know Who', villain Ralph Fiennes gave us another excellent example of a classic dinner suit , complete with satin shawl collar , flapless pockets and satin piping down the trouser seam. You'd normally see a slightly wider satin stripe but this finer piping looks rather edgy!
Amongst the glamourous cast of Skyfall there was also a glittering array of celebrities including Ms Naomi Campbell. I mentioned this new trend of the female interpretation of the dinner suit and I was delighted to find another superb example! The extra-wide peaked lapels enhance the jacket 's feature shoulder pads which give a really dramatic shape to the jacket , and the sweeping cross-over of the striking white lapels bring your eyes into her already tiny waist - very elegant. You'll also notice the back-to-front double vent - most probably intended as more of a stylish slit than a vent but I certainly appreciated the irony!

360 million YouTube hits gives you an idea of how popular this Korean Idol is. But what is it that people are looking at when they click onto his video link? Is it the crazy Lasso dancing routine? Is it the fact that the song IS actually quite catchy? I didn't get any of that when I watched the clip, but I did feel like I was watching a crazy fashion show.
I have actually lost count of the number of outfits donned during this video by the energetic 34 year old. I have a few pictures to share with you to show you just what I'm talking about.
Psy, despite his build, opts for very slim fitting garments . His jackets are tight and well fitted to him. Here we have Psy with a Powder Blue jacket , with a slim Shawl collar , and single button fastening. He also has black braiding on the edge of the lapels pocket flaps . He compliments this with a full collar dress shirt bow tie . Very smart.
And in this picture we can see he is a fan of the pastel colours. This pink compliments him very well, with Extra Wide satin peaked lapels and single button fastening. This time, matched with a black dress shirt white bow tie .
This seems to be one if his slightly more formal offerings, and it does seem like there is an ongoing theme here. Again, dressed in formal shirt Bow tie , we have the Korean rapper looking Dapper in Black. Absolutely love the shoes Psy.
And I do like the look of this shirt . Not that I'll be rushing out to buy one, but I do expect to see plenty of imitations out there soon.

On Monday night, I attended the seventh annual Scottish Fashion Awards in Glasgow, hosted by Style Icon Alexa Chung. It was a glitzy and glamorous spectacle but, with Swarovski as a sponsor, who would expect any less! I had the pleasure of meeting a whole host of interesting people from across the industry, but more importantly, I met a few dapper ladies and gents sporting suits, separates and tuxedos.
Next, we have a very daring double breasted jacket with eight buttons, three fastening, worn with a pair of light grey flannel trousers, again, finished off with a pocket square in a presidential fold. Third from the left is a classic two piece in light grey pinstripes, worn with slim lapels to give width to the shoulder line. Last but not least a modern two piece charcoal grey suit with slim lapels, worn with a skinny tie. Next, was James Robert Faulkener. Edinburgh's very own Rogue Milliner.
James' designs are fantastic, but not as fantastic as his plush velvet tuxedo, with shawl collar in satin, complimented by his waistcoat and scarf. Also in this picture, we see another velvet jacket with notched, split lapel in suit cloth, edged with satin.
In this final picture, I managed to snap a lady in a tuxedo, rare, but a great look. With a single fastening, satin edging, and full satin collar (rather than suit cloth). It really is a stand out tuxedo. Our gent is wearing a classic peaked collar tuxedo, with a one button fastening and straight flapped pockets. Pocket squares were really prevalent on the night.
All in all, it was a brilliant event with guest appearances from Dionne Blomfield, Millie Mackintosh of Made in Chelsea, Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame and New York stylist Derek Warburton, who sported a striking pink turban. Congratulations to all the winners, and I'm sure you'll all be household names in the future.

When you put aside sound it is vital that all visual details are highly considered. The focus now relies on what we can see, a person's dress becomes highly important, telling us a lot about the character.
Above all it's the shades of grey that give the detail, but the extremes that define and hold focus on the image. All these tools and observations are things you can use to your advantage in your day to day life. Peaked lapels feature heavily and this stunning double breasted three piece in a tweed cloth fits this gentleman's (Al Zimmer) rounder body shape. The lapel gives him presence when compared to the gentleman next to him. The key thing to remember though when picking a work suit is context. Bear in mind your profession and ask yourself the relevant questions, such as, is a peak too much for your job? As an accountant probably yes but for a PR executive this more flamboyant look could be perfect.
The Artist features iconic tails, satin peaked lapels, double breasted waistcoat and satin covered buttons. The difference in textures carry well in black and white. If you're getting married this year and want to go black tie this is the look I'd go for! Classic, classy and a real stand out style. It screams elegance and success from the tip of the peak, to the fall of the tail. The subtle textures carry as well across a room full of guests as they do through the media of film.
'Disheveled' I think is the word, with the rumpled suit emphasising George's state of mind. Keeping sharp will always give you more confidence and make you more effective in you work life, it's also a good trick for catching a ladies eye. Remember Barney from 'How I Met Your Mother,' the cheesy lines don't work but the sharp suit will turn heads.
And what mention of The Artist would be complete with out a mention of little Uggy. He ultimately proves that subtle detail like a bow tie can make even a dog fit for the red carpet.

Well what can be said for our Guru of the motor car and the speed freak, usually known for his open neck shirts and laid back casual look - he is the epitome of Mr Casual. He does however brush up rather well when required!.
Here Jeremy wears a classic white blazer teamed with a open necked checked shirt and jeans - what could be more cool for this unpretentious unassuming celeb.
But just to show that he can make the effort, here is Jeremy on his way to an awards night
It might or might not be a dinner suit under that overcoat but either way the bow tie is just so right.
And last but not least in the small photo below Jeremy's favourite jacket his beige cord.
