The phenomenal success of English boy band One Direction, after coming third in the 7th series of the X Factor, has culminated in a number one spot in America for their debut album Up All Night. The band, comprising members Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis, are now embarking on what looks like a sell out US tour to promote their album.
They have generated so much excitement, that some commentators have likened it to the Beatles first visit to the States in 1964, and the necessity for 20 bodygurds for each member on the tour! With 2.
35 million Twitter followers already, the boys are proving to be a music sensation, and they're also showing a great sartorially individual style in their choice of suits too.Maybe better known for their trendy casual gear, the boys have also been cutting a dash in a series of sharp suits. I have already noticed an increase in popularity in my Oxford, Reading and Camberley studios of their preference for an ultra-fitted cut. In the above picture of the band at an X Factor gig, from left to right, Liam is wearing a charcoal two button suit in a mohair cloth, with narrow notch lapels, straight flapped pockets and narrow flat front trousers .
Harry sports a black one button suit in a wool/silk mix, again with a narrow notch lapel and flat front trousers. Zayn has a black one button suit in a mohair cloth, with a narrow shawl collar, slanted flapless pockets and narrow flat front trousers . Louis has gone for a very on-trend maroon one button suit in a sharkskin cloth, again with a shawl collar and slanted flapless pockets, with narrow flat front trousers. Finally, Niall has chosen a dark charcoal one button suit in a mohair cloth, with shawl collar and contrast black trim, slanted flapless pockets and narrow flat front trouser. They have all chosen white shirts and skinny black ties to complete their outfits. In this picture, Harry has gone for a three piece single breasted suit in a mid grey mohair cloth, with a one button notch lapel jacket, four button waistcoat and flat front trousers, complementing it with a white shirt and oversize black bow tie! Zayn on the other hand has opted for a light grey double breasted suit in a mohair cloth, with peak lapels, straight flapped pockets and contrasting black buttons. All the boys have accessorized their suits with pocket squares. The 'Fab Five' certainly know how to look dapper and trendy on stage!

As your local tailor for our studios in Camberley and Milton Keynes, I am often asked what the fashion trends are in mens suits at the moment.
There has been a recent resurgence in the popularity of the style as championed by on this years X Factor, and this is a good thing, as it has been out of the limelight for too long.
It is a very sharp look, and suits a wide variety of body shapes. But the single breasted suit is still by far the most popular suit style. What we have seen though is changes in detail in the styling, such as peaked lapels, narrower collars with contrasting fabrics and shorter body lengths.
At the expense of over emphasising the X Factor influence, Gary Barlow has shown this difference in styling very well, with a number of well tailored suits and jackets in unusual fabrics and quirky designs.
And here a really different take on evening wear. Notice the shorter cut on the jacket length.
If you like any of these styles, and would like to design something similar for yourself, come and see me in either Camberley or Milton Keynes or my home branch in Oxford!
On Saturday, we saw the very stylish Kelly Rowland rock the androgynous look. The X Factor judge wore a monochrome two piece suit , compared to her usually glamorous dresses. The suit, however, still looked very glamorous and is certainly one that could be worn to an evening out.
Above you can see Kelly in the she wore on Saturday nights show. The jacket is black and in a dinner jacket style, with a shawl satin lapel.
Gary Barlow in the picture on below left is wearing a slim fitting two button satin shawl collar dinner suit with straight flapped pockets teamed up with a plain black slim fitting shirt and skinny tie a very trendy look at the moment.
Gary is also sporting a evening jacket and black trousers in the picture below which is a with a satin peaked collar in dark brown which looks amazing teamed up with a white shirt black tie and black evening trousers.
Dermot O'Leary in the picture above is modelling a charcoal three piece two button single breasted notched collar suit with a right ticket pocket with a low cut four button single breasted waistcoat he looks very dapper in-deed. In the picture on the above right Dermot is sporting a mid grey two piece two button lounge suit with a standard notch collar with flap-less slanted pockets which follows the curvature of the body, which gives a very slimming effect on the waist of the jacket. Teamed up with a white collar shirt with a single cuff.
Below is a very smart double breasted suit in a two button one button fastening style. It has a peaked collar and straight flapped pockets which really works for Dermot.
Dare one say it, but ever since stepping into the judge's seat on the 'X' Factor Gary Barlow has never looked more dapper. His suits outshining the comments of the other judges and some of the performances.
Gary's are now a classic simple elegant style he has learnt the behind dapper dressing that less is often more.
The classic clean lines of a two button straight flapped pocked jacket with two vents cuts a dashing figure.
He has come a long way from being the voice behind 'Take That' and is now as out spoken as the rest of the judges that have been on 'The X Factor'.
Here he is dressed without the jacket to his suit the same way most of us work around the office (well I know I do).
The red pinstripes in the suit echoed by the same shade in the shirt as very classical way of dressing and one that one should remember.
Not quite red but an orange stripe on black ..for a difference (Perhaps we could talk you into trying this one out Gary)
Here you can see Gary teaming his black 2-piece suit with a darker tee-shirt a modern way of wearing a casual suit and one that I will admit is catching on..well suited to the lightweight, narrow lapels that are catching back on today.
Well I for one wish him all the best in his role as judge and keep up the good work Gary spreading sartorial awareness.
Cheeky chappy Olly Murs shot to fame in 2009 after a second place finish on the sixth series of The X Factor. He's since had a string of hits, a number two album and has rarely left our TV screens and magazine/tabloid pages.
Once again, he's in the news following a shock announcement that he'll be fronting the Xtra Factor (ITV's behind the scenes show) over more experienced presenters who were in the running.
But it's not just his music and TV career that create headlines - ever since his first appearances on the talent show he's been making a name for himself in the fashion stakes. He instantly carved some key looks to his wardrobe that have become a staple of Olly's look, perfectly teaming his cheeky personality with quirky outfits and contrasting with suave rat-pack tailoring. Take a look at some of his crowd pleasing styles, no doubt he's hoping his presenter skills are just as popular:. Olly loves the Mod look and it suits his personality to a tee. Polo's buttoned to the top in bright colours, a dark casual jacket and trademark trilby hat all feature.
Making sure he's bang on the style money, Olly shows how to balance smart-casual for the all important summer festival season.
Olly looks dapper in fitted contemporary suit and bow tie. He's often seen in grey tones, fitted shirts and skinny ties are key to giving his rat-pack look a modern twist.
On Sunday's results show for ITV's The X-Factor, John Adeleye wore our very stylish double breasted suit - again! He looked absolutely great in it. Take a look below, and check out the last time he wore it.
The X-Factor is now in full swing and we've loved the suits that we've seen so far, worn by both the contestants and the judges. We particularly liked the suit that John Adeleye wore on last Sunday night's live results show, because it was one of our very own! That's right, A Suit That Fits is a supplier to the stars!.
One of the lovely stylists from the X Factor needed sharp suits for the contestants, and we were of course very happy to help. We sent them two suits - wore one of them on Sunday's episode (10/10/10 seems to be our lucky day) and we've videod the making of the other one on our .
John wore our very sharp double breasted, grey herringbone suit with extra wide peaked lapels. It looked great and we throughly enjoyed dressing the rising star for the show, we hope he liked the suit as much as we did!
If you like John's suit why not get this great look too, by clicking here?!
Im not even going mention it. To do so would be beneath me. You know what Im talking about....
This man is a little bit of a legend. Im positive not everyone will follow my opinion when I say that he is quite cool. He does have an arrogant air that causes a stir.
Most people will know of his cutting but usually honest remarks from a panel of one of the many shows he has been judge on. He certainly likes to stick to the same style. It really looks like he has two outfits. A casual one: Jeans, smart black shoes and a long sleeve V neck top. A formal one: Black suit, white open neck shirt .
One of these outfits is very classic, one is just hilarious. He totally nails the classic black suit, white shirt combo. It can be slightly overlooked here in our less sunny climes. It is said to wash out paler skin so I personally tend to rely on the navys and greys to lift my skin a little, make me look a little less like Ive just died. Anyone with slightly darker skin can venture into the black suit territory.
The reason Simon Cowell does so well is due to the striking difference in contrast between his hair and skin. This is reflected in the striking difference between suit and shirt colour. Anyone who has a tonal complexion, that is, not much difference between the colour of their skin and hair, should reflect this in their suit and shirt choices also.
Now for the future- lets all dress like Simon. You can tweak the Simon Cowell suit to your preference but try teaming it with that crisp white shirt for easy elegance. Please try hard to grow some chest hair if you have not already cultivated any.
After making Rhydian a suit for the last series of the X Factor, the team at A Suit That Fits.com have always had a keen interest in what the contestants are wearing and in the current series on ITV there have been some killer looks.
Jon and Edward or 'Jedward' are fast becoming, not only my favourite contestants on the show, but also my favourite people in the world EVER! Check out the bright red PVC numbers that they wore for Diva's Week. They look AMAZING! Admittedly this is not a style to everyone's taste, but you have got to hand it to them for being original. Unfortunately (fortunately) we do not stock PVC fabric at A Suit That Fits.com however we can do pillar box red. Click here to see our red two pieces from our get noticed range. After seeing last week's rather terrifying performance (video above) I genuinely did not know what to expect for Saturdays show.
When I watch Jon and Edward perform my palms sweat half out of embarrassment, and half out of enjoyment. Please Jon and Edward if you are reading this by any chance, A Suit That Fits.com would love to make your next suits and this time we will make something EVEN more extraordinary than the last!. Jedward for President(s)!
