Meet our tailorsA Suit That Fits suits are tailor made in our workshops in Kathmandu, Nepal. Here you can meet some of those tailors and find out more about the people who make your garments. Santosh ThatalI learnt tailoring from my father as a child; it is my family's profession. I have now been involved in making jackets for almost 15 years, but I also know how to make waistcoats, trousers, and ladies garments. I have good friends here, the staff are treated like family and not just workers; this creates a great environment to work in as we are encouraged to progress. I feel lucky to be working with the team in Nepal as this is my country and I do not have to go abroad to find work like many others have to.
Santosh makes jackets and coats
What are your hobbies/interests? Tara MajhiI started tailoring work at the age of 18 because I wanted to make nice clothes for myself! I feel proud to be working as a tailor and I like where I work. This is because of good payment, a good working environment and for the love and respect I get here. Because of this I have brought my brother to work here as well. Tara makes jackets and waistcoats
What are your hobbies/interests? Shyam ShresthaI started learning stitching at a young age in school. I learnt everything from making dolls and footballs to shoes. I have worked as a stitcher, opened my own tailoring shop, worked as a handicraft designer and have worked as master cutter for many years. Since I have come to A Suit That Fits I feel settled and happy. I’m enjoying learning new skills, new styles, and enjoy sharing my skills with fellow master cutters. I also had a chance to visit Great Britain, which never would have been possible without A Suit That Fits. Shyam is our Master Tailor
What are your hobbies/interests? Deepak LakheI learnt the skills of tailoring when I was 22 years old. I’m a happy man since I came to A Suit That Fits. I feel so happy that I have been able to learn some new design skills and have challenging work. I am also interested in singing, and whilst working here I have been able to produce an album! As the Chairman of the Workers Union I hope that A Suit That Fits keeps doing great things for all of us. Deepak makes jackets and is also the Chairman of the Workers' Union
What are your hobbies/interests? Sashi SinghMy husband came to Nepal from India in search of work and I accompanied him. I spent about one year as a house wife, but A Suit That Fits gave me the opportunity to work in their needle work department which has helped me to feel independent. Sashi works in our needle work department
What are your hobbies/interests? Shanti RuchalWe are delighted to have taken on board our first female under cutter. An under cutter works below a tailor for 3-5 years before qualifying as a tailor. This is what she has to say: I came to Kathmandu about 3 years ago as a friend of mine was working at A Suit That Fits. My father, mother and brother live in the village nearby so I go to see them from time to time. Life is enjoyable and I have been learning about work. I feel like I have more confidence now in myself!
Shanti is the Master Cutter's Assistant
What is your favourite tailored item? Laxmi ShresthaMy family is very close and being the only girl with three brothers is so much fun! I have recently been married and enjoying new responsibility. I am also studying for my Masters Degree in Environmental Science and am currently working on my Thesis. Laxmi is the Office Manager
