This week has been a great week for women’s tailoring. Not since Angelina Jolie appeared at the Golden Globes in her now-famous tuxedo have I seen so many fine examples of female stars wearing blazers, dinner jackets and suit trousers.
Their styles ranged from in-your-face-revealing to chic and demure.
Kim “Who needs a shirt?” Kardashian
No surprises as to which of these styles Kim Kardashian represented. Wearing a satin, shawl collar dinner jacket, she appeared completely topless between her lapels.
For those who think tailoring is usually stiff and serious, you should probably think again.
Victoria Beckham at the United Nations
Next up, Victoria Beckham appeared at the United Nations building in New York wearing a long, navy jacket complete with a contrasting collar.
While it looks like an overcoat, the matching trousers suggest it was actually part of an unusual two-piece suit ensemble.
Nicola Peltz at Paris Fashion Week
Meanwhile, actress Nicola Peltz gave Kim Kardashian a run for her money by wearing a flaring blazer over a bra at Paris Fashion Week.
The jacket’s unusual cut and the fact that Peltz was wearing very little else sure made for an avant garde look (appropriate both for Paris and Fashion Week, I say). Savile Row, take note!
Katie Holmes in New York
If that wasn’t enough women’s tailoring for one week, check out Katie Holmes’ outfit and its spectacular variations on blue at the New York premiere of her movie Days and Nights.
Holmes’ peaked lapel jacket featured slashed, satin-lined pockets and a contrasting back collar.
This is what we call “dapper casual” for women, proving it’s not just men who benefit from wearing tailored garments on their dress-down days.
Check out the following examples of suits we’ve tailored for women: a classic black two piece and a light grey, windowpane check three piece with a double-breasted waistcoat.
