Awards season is always the proverbial goldmine for sartorial inspiration! With many of the world’s most glamorous people coming together to show off their finery I conducted my usual observations on all the suits!
Straying a little from tradition, the two stand-out dressers for me were Ellen Degeneres and Angelina Jolie with a plethora of female tuxedos!
I think most of the world is now aware of the His & Hers dinner suits worn by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the Baftas.
Now in their case they didn’t go for identical suits (a midnight blue traditional tux vs. a double breasted crop jacket with shawl lapel and contrast buttons). I would say that Jessica has definitely embraces a more fitted, women’s suit look rather than Angelina’s smoldering androgynous look!
So moving on to the big event of the season – the Oscars! Where host Ellen Degenerous gave us a spectacular array of suits! (as well as the absolute best representation of Glinda, Witch of the North I have ever seen)
So on the left we start with a beautiful Smoking jacket style tuxedu jacket in crushed Blue Velvet, with peaked lapels and a single button. With the high buttoned waistcoat and ruffled Edwardian collar its a fantastic evening ensemble.
Moving to the right picture we have a simple and chic Ivory Tuxedo – the outfit worn during the infamous pizza delivery. Sticking with a traditional style, this one button, shawl collar without Satin contrast jacket looks great on Ellen in my opinion – the shawl as opposed to the Peaked lapel is a bit softer which really compliments her frame and her trademark trainers/sneakers!
Not the first time we’ve seen Ellen present the Oscars in Tuxedos – back in 2007 we saw a Maroon Velvet dinner suit with satin edging rather than the whole lapel, and back to Ivory but this time with a slightly wider shawl lapel in full satin.
Of course times and fashion change, but I think the slimmer trouser leg and simpler design of the more recent Ivory Tuxedo works so well, and embraces a more relaxed fit in the jacket instead. Big Fan.
