Our guest blogger Milana Saric has kindly written some mythbusting tips on how to dress like a young business woman:
"Dress gives one the outward sign from which people can judge the inward state of mind. One they can see, the other they cannot." Queen Elizabeth reportedly told Prince Charles. And she was right…
Even though we may be reluctant to accept it, we all make assumptions and judgments based on outward appearances and the same goes for the business world. Your business attire is a visual representation not only of yourself, but also the company you work for. In fact, what you wear is the simplest way to communicate without the use of words.
It’s a myth, however, that a business woman’s wardrobe has to consist of monotone palettes and lack femininity. By taking common pieces such as the suit or the fitted jacket and adding your own touch of femininity, glamour, and personality, and carrying yourself with poise, you will be prepared for any business meeting at a moment’s notice.
When women first began to enter positions formerly mostly held by men, another myth prevailed: that they needed to emulate a masculine way of dressing. Although still in skirts, women began to dress in shapeless skirt suits and wore scarves that resembled ties. In reality there is actually no need for women to conform to the rules of businessmen, and women quickly ditched their plain wardrobes and turned to tweed jackets, glamorous pencil skirts, and mile-high stilettos- and by using accessories; they stood out in a world full of men.
The Jacket survived and is to this day a vital part of any business attire for women of all ages. Nearly anything you wear can be made more sophisticated, elegant and professional with the right jacket so do yourself a favor and invest in a well-fitted one! Depending on what you like, you can customize it to suit your style. Make it more trendy and fun by adding a colorful lining that will give your jacket more personality or choose a shorter model to make it more feminine… Wear it with rolled up sleeves to make it more edgy… The choices are many!
Pair your custom made jacket with a pair of black skinny jeans and some high heels and you’re ready to enter any company. It’s all about looking and feeling confident and when do you feel more confident than when the suit fits?
