After his television acting debut in American Horror Story: Asylum, Adam Levine is about to make his big screen debut opposite Keira Knightley in a movie called Begin Again. In fact, he recently appeared at the movie’s premiere in New York wearing a navy suit with a fine pinstripe.
If you have a long, slender body and a pale complexion like Levine, it’s easy to look good in a slim fit suit while darker, classic colours are your best bet. Actually, Levine – like David Beckham – is one of those celebrities who takes the slim fit to a pretty skinny extreme. He often wears the base of his jacket pretty high (he does here, in fact), making his legs look even longer.
If you like Levine’s “premiere” look, I’ve found the perfect fabric for you: a navy blue, blended wool with some subtle white pinstripes. The stripes on this cloth are very narrow and will hardly be noticeable from afar; it’s only up close that the true classiness of the fabric will be revealed.
If you’re looking for a Levine-type look, you should style your suit with a slim or ultra slim fit, two jacket buttons, a notched or peaked lapel (Levine wears both), flapped pockets and four cuff buttons.
This body-hugging look can only really be worn tailored: when you try to create it with an off-the-peg suit, something always goes wrong, whether it’s an unattractively gaping lapel or a jacket length that’s too long. Here at A Suit That Fits, we make it possible.
