The CFDA Awards (Council of Fashion Designers of America) is one of the fashion industry’s biggest nights. Usually a mixture of elegance and sartorial questionability, last night’s awards were no exception. From a near-naked Rihanna to a demure Anna Wintour, the women at this year’s CFDA Awards were a riot of fashionable eccentricity.
The men, on the other hand, leaned on the right side of “reserved,” with the exception of Thom Browne, of course, who wore a cheeky shorts tuxedo: perfect for the hot weather we’ve been having! Besides that suit, my other favorite look of the evening was Zac Posen’s. Posen, who never fails to look absolutely stylish in everything he wears, sported a double-breasted suit with some narrow pants (is that the slightest hint of a boot cut?). He was possibly the evening’s best-dressed man.
You might be surprised to learn that not everyone gets it right on fashion’s big night. More men than you’d expect to see at such a swanky event looked downright shoddy. You’d think that on this one night of the year, an off-the-peg suit wouldn’t cut it, if only for the sake of avoiding Anna Wintour’s withering glare.
But as much as it pains me to point out, Mohammed Al Turki, filmmaker (below left), and Rodger Berman, husband of stylist Rachel Zoe (below right), are in desperate need of New York studio and order yourself a custom-tailored suit.
